Thousands of Families Receive Support from Americold, Feed the Children

Atlanta-based Americold and Feed the Children teamed up with several community partners – throughout the month of December to distribute food and essentials to children and their families. Food and essentials were distributed in communities across the US this holiday season in Atlanta, GA., Sebree, KY., Amarillo, TX., Springdale, AR., and Miami, FL.

The organizations teamed up to support children and families in underserved communities by providing each community partner with Food and essentials for 400 families, supporting 2,000 families in total.

Community partners including AAAD, Landon’s Hope, Catholic Charities of TX Panhandle, Feed 479, and Joshua’s Heart Foundation. Each family received a 25-pound box of food including canned vegetables, cereal, peanut butter, mac and cheese and water; and a 15-pound box of personal-care items, such as shampoo, razors, toothpaste and feminine hygiene products to distribute to families.

“We are always humbled when given the opportunity to work together for the good of others. Through our collaboration with Feed the Children and Americold this holiday season was a little brighter for families receiving non-perishable groceries, household and personal items, books, and gifts. Feed the Children has always been a valued partner for Joshua’s Heart Foundation, and we look forward to many more years of serving the together,” said Claudia McLean, executive director of Joshua’s Heart.

Today, 1 in 5 children in the U.S. lives in a food-insecure household, meaning that they don’t always know how or when they will get their next meal. Lower-income families now confront hardships like higher food and gas prices and sustained economic uncertainty. By working together, the organizations aim to provide access to additional resources so families can help stretch their budgets further.

Americold is committed to defeating hunger. Playing an integral role in the food supply chain, Americold owns and operates 243 temperature-controlled warehouses around the world, with approximately 1.5 billion cubic feet of storage. Its facilities connect food producers, processors, distributors and retailers to consumers, ensuring that food is preserved and protected on its journey from farm to fork.

“Our partnership with Feed the Children is incredibly meaningful because it is one way that we show our commitment to fighting hunger and to giving back in the communities where we live and work. We’re proud of the unique ways we are able to support their efforts to provide for families experiencing food insecurity,” said George Chappelle, CEO of Americold.

This is part of a continuing partnership between Americold and Feed the Children to provide food and resources to underserved communities that will continue into 2024. During the six-year partnership, Americold has donated critical funds to Feed the Children as well as travelled hundreds of thousands of miles providing complimentary temperature-controlled transportation services of chilled and frozen goods. Together, the organizations have helped feed hundreds of thousands of families across America.

Feed the Children believes it takes everyone – the nonprofit sector, corporations, community organizations, government officials and food suppliers – to come together to do good for those who need it. When efforts are combined, a greater impact is achieved.

“It is only through partnership that we can reach at-risk families during the holiday season,” said Travis Arnold, president and CEO of Feed the Children. “No child should go without, and Feed the Children is thankful for our partnerships that can help ease the burden many families are facing. If you are fortunate enough to experience joy and generosity around your own holiday table, you can make a tremendous difference when you give from your heart.”
