Support for Educators Around the World
No matter where they’re from or where they live, Feed the Children’s supporters have one thing in common: we all know that children are the future, and to care for them today is to create a brighter tomorrow.
It’s that mindset that gets Gledin Hernández up every morning at 5:40 am, motivated and ready to work.
Gledin, age 31, is Director of the Josefa Lastiri de Morazan Basic Education Center in El Pital, Honduras. It’s a role he takes great pride in, although it means he has to wear multiple hats on any given day: he teaches classes, supervises the other instructors, oversees communication with parents, and even acts as facility management.
“I feel very happy with the work I do at the Education Center, since we are always looking out for the best interests of the children in education, in health, and nutrition,” he explains. “That is the key to their well-being.”
However, aside from Gledin’s boundless enthusiasm, the community of El Pital has few resources. Much of the population lives in poverty, including many students at the Education Center. The school itself lacked several essential features, like sinks and water for handwashing, something that both concerned Gledin and frustrated him immensely. He knew the importance of teaching and modeling proper hygiene behavior, such as washing hands before eating, for his students. But with no access to the right resources, he was powerless to do anything about it.
However, Gledin and the Education Center were about to get some well-deserved assistance in the form of a Feed the Children program in El Pital!
Thanks to support from donors like you, the Education Center underwent some major upgrades: clean water access, sanitation training and hygiene kits, supplies for both teachers and students, the seeds and supplies to start a school garden, and more!
Since Feed the Children’s support of the Education Center began, Gledin has seen his beloved school truly thrive.
“We greatly appreciate Feed the Children in the community and school,” he says. “They have always been attentive to existing needs and resolved situations that have existed for years. Everything that the organization provides helps us with the children in food and education.”
Gledin’s story is one of triumph, and truly a shared success! Without educators like him and donors like you, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish results like this. Thanks to you, children across the world are able to look towards a brighter future – and we see it, too!
