Rashid’s a Model Citizen for His Village
“I love drinking clean and fresh water!”
How you’re improving life for Rashid, his family, and their village.
At just 13 years old, Rashid’s life is incredibly difficult. He lives with his mother and nephew in a small house in their rural Tanzanian village. His mother is a single parent; his father abandoned the family. She’s able to grow small crops to feed them, bartering what she can to cover the rest of the family’s expenses.
Their home, made of mud bricks, has no electricity or running water. Rashid and his family have to walk a long distance if they want to drink, cook, or wash with water. The main road to the nearest city is very far from their village, further limiting their access to many important resources.
But thanks to generous supporters like you, Feed the Children boosted the community’s resources by strengthening an important location that was close to Rashid’s home — the school! After implementing a water harvesting system, hand washing stations, and nutrition clubs for kids, the entire community has greatly benefited.
“Feed the Children has saved us multiple times,” says Rashid’s mother. “I think these programs can lead to a healthier, more educated, and more resilient community.”
Rashid’s family and the community are grateful for the new facilities and proud to have a school that’s become a model for surrounding villages. And the water harvesting system has been a game changer, providing a reliable water source — especially during the dry season.
“I like going to school because I get time to play with my friends, and also, I love drinking clean and fresh water,” Rashid says happily
Thanks to you, Rashid’s family and their community now enjoy improved access to clean water, an improved learning environment for kids, improved hygiene, and improved nutrition. Your continued support makes stories like Rashid’s possible.
