Hundreds of Chicago Families Receive Support from FedEx, Feed the Children to kick off MLK holiday weekend

FedEx joined today with leading anti-hunger organization Feed the Children for a resource rally to distribute food, daily essentials and other resources to 400 Chicago families at Building Brighter Futures Family Services, 1512 S Pulaski Rd. to kick off the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.

Each participating family was pre-identified by Building Brighter Futures Family Services. They received a 25-pound box of food including canned vegetables, cereal, peanut butter, mac and cheese and water; a 15-pound box of personal-care essentials such as shampoo, razors, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, children’s books and additional products.

With more than 20% of Chicago residents living below the poverty line, price hikes in transportation, food, clothing, housing and energy are stretching the budgets of lower-income families to the breaking point.

“FedEx is proud to celebrate the life of Dr. King by delivering positive change around the world, including the communities where we live and work,” Jenny Robertson, Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Communications at FedEx, said. “Our collaboration with Feed the Children and Building Brighter Futures Family Services will help support Chicago area families.”

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life, leadership and legacy, FedEx team members across the U.S. are coming together in service to handout meals, clean up communities and welcome visitors to experience history at multiple civil rights museums across the U.S. during week leading up to Monday, January 15, 2024.

Feed the Children believes it takes everyone – the nonprofit sector, corporations, community organizations, government officials and food suppliers – to come together to do good for those who need it. When efforts are combined, a greater impact is achieved.

“Feed the Children is thrilled to team up with FedEx to help parents and caregivers who are struggling to feed their families, “Travis Arnold, Feed the Children president and CEO, said. “We know that when we combine our efforts, we have a greater impact on the lives of families who need us most—right here in Chicago.”
