We believe that education is one of the best ways to help children escape the cycle of poverty. However, per-student funding for education has declined in recent years. In fact, according to recent survey data, the average educator spent $745 of their own money last year — without reimbursement — on school supplies for students who can’t afford them.
To address this problem, Feed the Children’s Teacher Store has offered free school and classroom supplies since 2010 to educators working in some of America’s most challenged school districts. With five locations in Arizona, Indiana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, our Teacher Store provides classroom basics like paper, pens, binders, crayons and other materials along with children’s books and snacks to enhance kids’ learning and help them succeed.
In fiscal year 2021, Feed the Children hosted more than 29,500 teacher visits and provided more than $2.8 million in supplies as well as books valued at nearly $4 million to benefit an estimated 803,500 students across 482 school districts.
