The Carmelo Anthony Foundation, Pyramid Community Development Corporation dba The Power Center and Feed the Children are providing 400 Houston families with free food and essentials to help fight holiday hunger Wed., Nov. 14. The distribution will take place at The Power Center (12401 S. Post Oak Rd.) from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Each participating family, pre-identified by Pyramid Community Development Corporation dba The Power Center based on need, will receive a 25-pound box of food such as canned vegetables, peanut butter and macaroni and cheese; a 10-pound box of personal-care items such as shampoo, razors and toothpaste; and additional products. For families who struggle to put food on the table, these items will bring relief as well as hope for a brighter holiday season.
“The Carmelo Anthony Foundation is about empowering kids and communities through education, recreation, and community development. Raising awareness of important issues such as childhood hunger and its presence in so many neighborhoods, the foundation continues to be committed to addressing this issue,” said Asani Swann, Executive Director of The Carmelo Anthony Foundation. “By working together with Feed the Children, we can help Houston residents when they need it most and that is important to us.”
This is one of many events Feed the Children has planned in communities across the country as a part of its No Hunger Holidays campaign to transform hunger into hope during the season of giving. In Houston alone, more than 22 percent of the residents live below the poverty line. Often, these families are uncertain of where they will find their next meal.
“Feed the Children is honored to work alongside Carmelo and his foundation for this event in Houston,” said Jessica Gilliam, Director of Corporate Partnerships at Feed the Children. “With the help of our generous corporate and community partners, and volunteers, we can feed and provide the joy of the holiday season to families who really need our help.”
The Carmelo Anthony Foundation has been a dedicated partner of Feed the Children for more than 10 years. By working together through this long-term partnership, thousands of families have received much-needed food and essentials which have brought joy into their holiday celebrations.
“We are not only providing food and essentials to these families—but also hope,” said Travis Arnold, Feed the Children president and CEO. “Hope for a better future during this holiday season is made possible thanks to The Carmelo Anthony Foundation and Pyramid Community Development Corporation dba The Power Center who play a vital role in helping us create a world where no child goes to bed hungry.”
