Herbalife Nutrition (HLF), a premier nutrition company, and Feed the Children are partnering for a nine-week program which will provide after-school activities as well as meals every school day to 200 students across the greater Los Angeles area. Kicking off on Monday, Feb. 10, activities will include healthy cooking classes and education on topics such as why healthy eating is important, how to store and cook vegetables, how to read a nutrition label among others.
Students participating in the Feed in A.C.T.I.O.N. (Assisting Communities Together In Our Nation) program have been identified by A Community of Friends, an organization that is part of Feed the Children’s national network of valued community partners. A Community of Friends’ mission is to end homelessness through the provision of quality, permanent supportive housing for people with mental illness. At the conclusion of the program, a community distribution event will be held where families will receive food, hygiene items, backpacks filled with school supplies, books and products from Herbalife Nutrition.
“Through our ongoing partnership with Feed the Children, we are proud to extend our reach in our own backyard by sharing good nutrition and education to the next generation,” said Alan Hoffman, executive vice president, Global Corporate Affairs, Herbalife Nutrition.
In Los Angeles, 19.1 percent of residents live below the poverty line and many of these families struggle with food insecurity. Unfortunately, this is a trend that stretches across America with nearly one out of every seven Americans having incomes below the poverty level.
“Feed the Children is proud to partner with Herbalife Nutrition to address the important issue of childhood hunger. The problem cannot be tackled alone. We know that when we combine our efforts, we will have a greater impact on the lives of families who need us most,” said Travis Arnold, Feed the Children president and CEO.
This effort is part Herbalife Nutrition’s larger Nutrition for Zero Hunger campaign. As part of this effort, Herbalife Nutrition is committed to providing resources to help reduce the number of people affected by hunger. It is through collaborative partnerships, such as this one with Feed the Children, that Herbalife Nutrition’s initiative to improve nutrition including access, education and awareness will be implemented.
About Feed the Children
At Feed the Children, we feed hungry kids. We envision a world where no child goes to bed hungry. In the U.S. and internationally, we are dedicated to helping families and communities achieve stable lives and to reducing the need for help tomorrow, while providing food and resources to help them today. We distribute product donations from corporate donors to local community partners, we provide support for teachers and students, and we mobilize resources quickly to aid recovery efforts when natural disasters strike. Internationally, we manage child-focused community development programs in 8 countries. We welcome partnerships because we know our work would not be possible without collaborative relationships.
