Baywoods Hotels, Journey’s Crossing Church and Feed the Children teamed up to deliver food, resources and hope to 400 families in Germantown Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
During the drive-thru event, each family received a 25-pound box of shelf-stable food; a 10-pound box of daily essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion and personal-care items as well as additional products.
This winter, too many people will find themselves facing impossible choices about basic needs and living and without essential resources. More than 6.5 percent of families in Germantown wrestle with food insecurity. In the U.S., 1 in 8 children are now estimated to be food insecure. Nationwide, 13.5 million households with children have struggled to put enough food on the table in the past year.
“Children cannot thrive unless their basic needs are met,” said Travis Arnold, president and CEO of Feed the Children. “A widespread issue like childhood hunger will only be solved when enough people work together. Partners like Baywoods Hotels and Journey Crossings Church are vital to our mission as we serve vulnerable communities in cities, towns and rural areas across the United States.”
