Pam is resourceful. She has to be. The devoted grandmother has hungry mouths to feed.
Pam lives in a small town in Kentucky. She never expected to spend her “retirement” raising her grandchildren, but that’s how things worked out.
Recently, the motel where she worked shut down. With barely enough money to pay the bills and put food on the table, Pam got to work making sure her family wouldn’t go hungry.
She scraped her funds together and loaded up on affordable meats and produce from local farmers. She turned cans of broth and zucchini from her brother’s garden into healthy soup, and bananas her church gave her into loaf after loaf of banana bread. For Pam, all her efforts were an act of love.
She packed it all into her freezers. Then, the power went out. Months and months of food spoiled. All of it—ruined. It was a devastating loss for Pam and her grandchildren. But they didn’t go hungry. That’s thanks amazing supporters, Feed the Children was empowered to reach her community with food and vital essentials.
Pam and her grandkids turned to Abundance of Rain Food Ministry, a local food pantry community partner of Feed the Children, where they were able to get the lifeline they needed.
At first, Pam admits she was ashamed to go to a food pantry. But soon, she knew she had to swallow her pride and ask for help.
“Thank God it’s there,” she says of the pantry. “I don’t know what this community would do without it.”
Pam still visits the pantry when times are tough, like when her car needed expensive repairs. It takes a huge burden off her shoulders to know that help is there. “If it wasn’t for the food pantry, some months we’d be down to nothing,” she says. “It helped. I appreciate it a lot.”
Every donation helps the on-the-ground efforts of partners all over America. It’s also an act of love that helps a hungry family like Pam’s.
If you are able, please take a moment today to make a donation. Any gift, no matter the amount, can be the difference between hunger and hope for a child.
