The Oklahoman Partners With Feed The Children To Help Oklahoma City Children In Need

Employees of The Oklahoman to help distribute food and essentials

OKLAHOMA CITY (July 20, 2012) On Wednesday July 25, Feed The Children will deliver a semi tractor-trailer full of food and essentials to Mustard Seed Development Corporation. The food and essentials will be distributed to families from the North Highland Elementary School area with the help of The Oklahoman beginning at 10 a.m. at 701 West Britton Road in Oklahoma City as part of Feed The Children’s Together OKC initiative.

“Together OKC” is a corporate volunteer initiative co-sponsored by The Oklahoman designed to serve children and families in need who live in Oklahoma City. Participating companies work to load an entire truck of food and essentials boxes in Feed The Children’s distribution center and then personally distribute the items to an area they wish to support.
In addition, each participating company receives recognition from Oklahoma City mayor Mick Cornett.

Feed The Children partner agency Mustard Seed Development Corporation has pre-identified families receiving the boxes. Employees for The Oklahoman donated their time to help pack food and essentials boxes.  Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of personal care items. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.

The distribution is also part of Feed The Children’s Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped more than 390,000 families across the country since it began in 2009.

One in four children in Oklahoma City (28 percent) is considered impoverished.  The number of impoverished children living in Oklahoma (226,679) could fill Chesapeake Arena more than 18 times.

"We are so grateful to The Oklahoman for being a major partner in Together OKC,” said Feed The Children President and CEO, Kevin Hagan . "Although Feed The Children is a worldwide organization, Oklahoma City is our home and we are proud of that fact. We’re also proud that local companies are stepping up to help us in our efforts to feed hungry children.”
