Partners to Nourish Minds and Bodies of U.S. Children in Need

GLENDALE, Ariz. (Feb. 6, 2012) – On Feb. 7, Feed The Children will provide backpacks and supplies to help students experiencing homelessness in Arizona. The backpacks will be delivered at 8:30 a.m. to Washington Elementary School District Office Warehouse at 4650 W. Sweetwater in Glendale, AZ. The backpacks will be distributed to Homeless Student Liaisons at 9:30 a.m. Students experiencing homelessness in Arizona will receive the backpacks during this school year.

The distribution includes 1,920 backpacks filled with:
• school supplies
• non-perishable food
• essentials (items such as toothpaste, deodorant and combs)
• children’s books

H.E.L.P., Homeless Education and Literacy Program, an outreach program of Feed The Children, has partnered with the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY) to distribute backpacks to children in need.

Through a partnership with SchoolKidz, a proud business unit of Staples® Inc., Feed The Children plans to distribute 150,000 backpacks for the 2011-2012 school year.

“The goal of our backpack program is to nourish both the minds and bodies of impoverished children, so they can reach their potential in the classroom,” says Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. “NAEHCY continues to show its dedication to this mission to care for the physical, emotional and educational needs of Arizona’s most vulnerable citizens.”
