MC HAMMER AND FEED THE CHILDREN TO HELP CALIFORNIA

2,000 Families to Receive Food and Essentials

OAKLAND, Calif. (Dec. 16, 2011) – Feed The Children is teaming with world-renowned recording artist and entrepreneur MC Hammer to deliver five semi tractor-trailers full of food and essentials for 2,000 families in Northern California.  The items will be delivered and distributed on Wednesday, Dec. 21 and Thursday Dec. 22.

 Oakland, CA
 Stockton, CA
 Sacramento, CA
 Merced, CA
 San Jose, CA

Feed The Children partner agencies in each city have pre-identified families receiving the boxes. Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food, a 10-pound box of personal care items and a box of Avon products. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.

Many people in California have lost their jobs and parents are struggling to put food on the table  In fact, more than 30 percent of children living in the five cities where food and essentials will be distributed are considered impoverished.  There are enough impoverished children living in California to fill Oracle Arena more than 100 times.

"We are so thankful this holiday season for great partners like Hammer,” said Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. "So many in California are lacking life’s essentials during Christmas. However hunger is not limited to the holidays. We hope people will follow Hammer’s lead to help fellow Americans suffering through the current economic downturn.”
