PepsiCo, Albertson’s and Feed the Children Partner to Defeat Hunger in Dallas

Defeat Hunger Month effort provides food to supplement meals for a week for 800 Dallas families

Dallas, – Eight hundred Dallas families in need will receive enough food to supplement meals for a week plus daily essentials, thanks to a partnership between PepsiCo, Albertson’s and Feed the Children.

The event in Dallas coincides with  Defeat Hunger Month, an annual campaign which aims to inspire people to take action to defeat hunger in the U.S. In Dallas alone, nearly 18 percent of the population lives below the poverty line.

The receiving families have been identified and preselected by CitySquare, a Dallas-based nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting the causes and effects of poverty through service, advocacy and friendship.

“We’re excited to partner with Feed the Children, CitySquare and Albertson’s helping our friends and neighbors in the Dallas community,” said John Dean, vice president, Texoma region, PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division. “Frito-Lay and PepsiCo are committed to giving back to our communities where we live and work, and providing enough food to supplement meals for a week is a small way we can help make a difference.”

As part of the event, PepsiCo will contribute a variety of foods and beverages to participating families. For their part, Albertson’s is donating fresh produce and many shelf-stable products.

Each qualifying recipient at today’s event will be given:

  • One 25-pound box of nonperishable food items
  • One 15-pound box of personal-care items
  • One box of AVON products
  • Books from Disney Publishing Worldwide
  • One 20-count bag of Frio-Lay Better-for-You Multipack
  • PepsiCo beverages
  • Life Original Cereal
  • Standard Quaker Oats
  • Chewy Granola Bars

This distribution event is part of a larger initiative between PepsiCo and Feed the Children to help feed communities in cities throughout the United States. Volunteers from PepsiCo, Albertson’s and Feed the Children will be onsite serving families and assisting with distribution during today’s event.
