Nonprofits Come Together to Help 400 Families
WILMOT Ark., – On Thursday, Sept. 18, Feed the Children will deliver one truckload of food and essentials for 400 Wilmot families in need. Distribution of the boxes begins at 9:30 a.m. for the families at First and Lake Streets in Wilmot. Feed the Children will continue to bring one truck every month to Wilmot this year.
Because hunger can’t be tackled alone, Feed the Children’s partner agency, Eagle Family Ministries, has pre-identified families in need who will each receive a 25-pound food box and a 10-pound box of basic essentials. The distribution is part of Feed the Children’s Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped more than 435,000 kids and families across the country since it began in 2009.
Hunger affects people all over the United States. One in four children across the nation can’t afford to buy food, which means they also can’t afford to buy essentials or school supplies. In Arkansas alone, 27 percent of children are living in poverty and struggling with everyday needs.
“At Feed the Children, we’re focused on helping kids be kids,” said Kevin Hagan, Feed the Children president and CEO. “When kids are hungry, they are worrying about where their next meal will come from, and aren’t given the opportunity to just be a kid and have fun. That’s why we are trying to defeat hunger, to give kids their childhood back.”
