Feed the Children Fighting to End Hunger in Kentucky

Nonprofits Come Together to Help 400 Families

WATER VALLEY, Ky., – On Saturday, Sept. 27, Feed the Children will deliver one truckload of food and essentials for 400 Water Valley families in need. Distribution of the boxes will begin at 10:00 a.m. for families at the Pentecostal Tabernacle at 16235 State Route 45 in Water Valley.

Because hunger can’t be tackled alone, Feed the Children’s partner agency, Pentecostal Tabernacle, has pre-identified families in need who will each receive a 25-pound food box and a 10-pound box of basic essentials. The distribution is part of Feed the Children’s Americans Feeding Americans program, which has helped more than 435,000 kids and families across the country since it began in 2009.

Hunger affects people all over the United States. One in four children across the nation can’t afford to buy food, which means they also can’t afford to buy essentials or school supplies. In Indiana alone, nearly one in four children experience food hardship. Those kids could fill up the Lucas Oil Stadium more than five times its capacity.

“At Feed the Children, we’re focused on helping kids be kids,” said Kevin Hagan, Feed the Children president and CEO. “When kids are hungry, they are worrying about where their next meal will come from, and aren’t given the opportunity to just be a kid and have fun. That’s why we are trying to defeat hunger, to give kids their childhood back.”
