Interactive and Kid-Friendly Food and Education Experience to Benefit 400 families in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, – Feed the Children and StarKist® have joined forces to launch Feed and Read – an interactive and kid-friendly food and education experience. As many as 400 families, pre-identified by Challengers Boys & Girls Club, will participate in today’s inaugural activity. Attendees will gather from 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at 5029 S. Vermont.
More than 800 backpacks filled with school supplies, books and snacks will be distributed to children. All families will receive a 25-pound box of food and a 15-pound box of essentials (such as shampoo, conditioner and personal care items) from Feed the Children and StarKist®. Plush toys, protein-packed pouches of StarKist® tuna as well as a variety of additional nutritious food also will be distributed. A colorful and interactive display with reading nooks will be on site so kids may immediately begin enjoying the books they are given in a unique space made just for them.
The school year is fast approaching and Feed the Children is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through education. With more than 22% of Los Angeles citizens living below the poverty line, the goal of Feed and Read is to help set kids on the path to a successful new school year and a brighter future.

Although StarKist and Feed the Children began working together in 2009, the current National Partnership Campaign and Alliance began in 2016. Now in its second year, the national partnership has brought helpful community resource events as well as nutritious and protein-packed StarKist products to families in need across the U.S.
Because it takes everyone working together to defeat hunger, StarKist® and Feed the Children have brought together multiple groups to provide kids and families with an event to remember. Participating partners include: Disney Publishing Worldwide, First Book, Delivering Good, Clif Bar & Company, Dole Foods International, The Hain Celestial Group and several other organizations.
