Local to compete at national championship
Oklahoma City, Okla., – Driver for Feed the Children’s Core Carrier FTC Transportation, Inc., Frederick Murray of Oklahoma City, was recently awarded first place in the 5-Axle Sleeper Berth Division of the 2016 Oklahoma Truck Driving Championships. Murray will now advance to the 2016 National Truck Driving Championships Aug. 10 – 13 in Indianapolis, Ind.
The two-day 2016 Oklahoma Truck Driving Championships, June 3-4, included a written exam, personal interview, pre-trip inspection skills test and a driving skills test that included six challenges. Murray’s first place honor was one of many honors he has received throughout his career.
Murray’s record consists of Safe Driving Awards a total of 10 times, including third runner-up for Driver of the Year at FTC Transportation, Inc. in 2014, and second runner-up for Driver of the Year at FTC Transportation, Inc. in 2015.
With a career of almost 40 years in the transportation field, Murray has successfully traveled 3.8 million safe driving miles.
“We are proud of Fred Murray for this honor within our home state of Oklahoma,” said Travis Arnold, president of FTC Transportation and COO of Feed the Children. “We are dedicated to safely helping Feed the Children carry out its mission to provide hope and resources to those without life’s essentials, and Fred is a great example of our cause.”
FTC Transportation, Inc., Feed the Children’s dedicated carrier, was also awarded several honors for excellence in highway safety earlier this year.
It was selected as the Best Overall Fleet to Drive For in the small carrier category by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and its partner CarriersEdge. This is the fourth time FTC Transportation was named one of the Best Fleets to Drive For in North America, and the first time it has been named an overall winner.
FTC Transportation was also named by TCA as the Grand Trophy winner for the safest fleet in the small carrier division (total annual mileage of less than 25 million miles), for the second consecutive year. TCA is the only national trade association whose collective sole focus is the truckload segment of the motor carrier.
FTC Transportation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the international relief organization Feed the Children. Established in 1986, FTC Transportation assists in the pickup and delivery of hunger relief items and disaster essentials throughout the United States – which is just one of the many things that helps to differentiate Feed the Children from other hunger charities. FTC Transportation also provides competitive truckload hauling throughout the country as a full-contract carrier.
